CGLA has been approved to open in July 2009. As the first single gender charter school in Tennessee, CGLA will serve a maximum of 350 girls in grades 6-12. During the first year of operations, CGLA will enroll 75 students: fifty 6th graders and twenty-five 9th graders.The school's rigorous college prep curriculum has a central focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). CGLA enjoys a broad range of community partners, including UT at Chattanooga and Chattanooga State Technical Community College. Through a partnership with the local housing authority, the school is located in a public housing community. CGLA's leadership program, which includes a community service requirement, will operate in collaboration with the City of Chattanooga Department of Neighborhood Services and Community Development.
