The Vision for Omni Schools
February 23, 2010
"We are absolutely thrilled with the approval of the Omni Prep Academy—Lower School and Middle School!"
The vision for Omni Schools, the sponsor for the Omni Prep Academies, is the outgrowth of a now decade-long conversation about educational opportunity and student achievement between co-founders Marc Willis and Cary Booker. Both Booker and Willis have a long history mentoring and educating young people and they have combined their experience and passion to develop an educational organization dedicated to supporting the aspirations of Memphis' most at risk children.
The vision for Omni Prep Academy (South Pointe Lower School and Middle School) students is that they will attend and thrive in college, provide leadership and service to the communities in which they live and operate, and embrace learning as a lifelong devotion. Omni Schools' founders view with alarm the ongoing cyclical poverty of families in Memphis and see their comprehensive approach to education as a lever to push against this entrenched poverty and ensure that students develop a reliable pathway out of these circumstances.
In August OPA-South Pointe Lower School will open its doors to Kindergarten and 1st grade students and OPA-South Pointe Middle School will open its doors to 5th and 6th grade students. According to the two founders, "this will be an incredible journey for everyone involved, especially the young people we are so privileged to serve. We are looking forward to not only the realization of our vision but also the realization of the dreams of our students."
