The Memphis Academy of Science and Engineering (MASE) was the first charter school approved in the state of Tennessee. Sponsored by the Memphis Bioworks Foundation, MASE opened its doors to 148 seventh graders in 2003 and will evolve into a school comprised of approximately 850 students in grades 6-12 by 2008. MASE's staff is committed to social awareness, excellence, and personal responsibility in an effort to help develop the students to their full potential. The mission of the Memphis Academy of Science and Engineering is to produce lifelong learners, critical thinkers, effective communicators, and productive members of the global community. This is achieved through a focus on state and national standards, strong industrial partnerships, numerous research opportunities and continuous technological improvements.
